Our Residential Backflow Prevention Installation Services
A residential backflow preventer allows water to flow exclusively in one direction, keeping potable water free from contamination. We oversee the installation process, from selecting the backflow prevention device to performing tests and scheduled maintenance.
Residential Backflow Prevention Device Selection
Several types of backflow preventers exist with different applications. We determine the suitability of your residential water backflow preventer based on your water or sewer system’s water pressure, hazard degree, application, and plumbing codes in your area. There are specific residential backflow preventers for lawn irrigation systems, fire sprinklers, potable water, sewers, and drain lines. Every home has distinct backflow preventer devices for pools, faucets with hose attachments, garbage disposals, toilets, and dishwashers.
Residential Backflow Preventer Installation Services
We recommend having a qualified professional install your backflow preventer to protect your water supply. Improper installations increase the risk of contamination and fines for non-compliance with plumbing codes. Our team of experts can handle all residential backflow prevention installation solutions, from creating air gaps on pool lines to vacuum breakers on hose bibs and double-check valve assembly (DCVA) and the pressure vacuum breaker assembly (PVBA) for irrigation systems. We ensure every backflow preventer device functions well before completing the installation process.
Backflow Prevention Inspections for Residential Homes
Before a residential backflow preventer installation, we conduct comprehensive inspections of your plumbing system to locate ideal installation sites. We conduct visual inspections using top-grade video cameras of your plumbing system and the residential water backflow preventer for any damages or defects. Our in-house plumbers also perform functionality tests to verify the device performance and compliance checks to ensure they comply with state and local plumbing codes and regulations.
Backflow Preventer Residential System Tests
Once the installation is over, we perform comprehensive tests to ascertain the functioning of the backflow preventer device. We use industry-grade testing equipment to conduct our assessments and analysis. Our tests begin by attaching a test kit to the backflow device to capture water samples. We then test the sample to ascertain no backflow is present. Our plumbers adjust and repair the devices if the tests show negative results. We ensure all our processes comply with plumbing codes throughout the installation process.

Mark from Capri Engineering was able to provide a reasonable quote for a small paver repair work. The pavers were uneven and some of the borders were falling apart. Mark... read more and his team are able to fix the problem quickly. I will definitely recommend Mark and use his service again in the future.
9/09/2024We got multiple quotes and also scheduled consultation with other business on yelp, Mark's team is professional and did a great job!
12/12/2023Mark and his associate, Brian, absolutely saved us last Friday after an "emergency" plumber left us in the lurch.
Long story short, we had a clogged and... read more perpetually-running toilet, which meant that the bowl would fill up and risk overflowing, so once an hour, all night long, I set an alarm and went to go manually empty the toilet with a bucket. By 645am, on 45min of sleep, I was DONE. I sent out a desperate message on Yelp. Mark replied in 10min. By 7am, we had a plan.
Allowing for travel time and parts acquisition (better to get stuff in advance and show up slightly later than show up earlier, only to have to go back out for a part), they showed up at 9am, and our "little toilet problem" had revealed itself to be a "big clog problem", with our tub backing up, and water leaking from the living room ceiling downstairs AND the garage ceiling. But they fixed it all! Toilet valve was fixed, so it no longer perpetually runs, the clog has been eliminated, and the leaks stopped.
A problem like this is par for the course with a plumber. Having said that, there are two distinct points I should make to really highlight why Capri Engineering is special:
1. Mark explained everything to me, step by step, clearly and professionally--not just what the problem was and how it would be fixed, but he also taught me some basic plumbing preventative measures, WITHOUT patronizing me. As a woman, this is actually really important.
2. Capri isn't just plumbing, they do it ALL. Our ceiling is, miraculously, generally ok, but if it wasn't, they'd be able to come back and repair it just as easily as the plumbing.
Think of Capri Engineering as a general contractor--i.e., someone who handles plumbing AND electrical AND construnction--who happens to respond to emergency calls. Now, think of how many companies you know who actually do that. You usually get one or the other, but not both, unless they're limited to one kind of service. That's what makes Capri so special: they're a one-stop shop that ACTUALLY gets the job done. ALL the jobs, in fact.

My kitchen faucet turned faulty and I posted a project to get plumbing assistance. Mark promptly responded back with a hypothesis he had already guessed from the problem description. Mark... read more went on to provide interactive help guiding me through a couple steps that eventually led to faucet head as the root cause, all this at 10:30pm at night for NO CHARGE! He generously mentioned he wouldn't have liked charging for a 2 minute diagnostic and turned down my offer to Apple Pay.
I'm super impressed by the generosity, skill and ethic displayed, would contact this business for future needs, and recommend to fellow neighbors. Way to go Mark and team!

If you use Capri Engineering you will be pleased with the results. There is a reason why he is so booked out but he was very responsive to get my job done even working on Sunday.
11/30/2023Mark did a wonderful job of changing out our hose bibs. I suspected two were faulty and one was cemented to an old hose. Very happy I can attach a... read more new hose for the backyard garden. The other two bibs should no longer be a source of water leak. I highly recommend giving him a call and get a free estimate for your plumbing needs.

He... read more and his team provided an excellent and reasonable quote and timing for services and did an outstanding job. Highly reliable / flexible and excellent communicator!
9/28/2023The day after New Year's, my stepmom had an issue with her pipes backing up. Couldn't use the restroom or wash dishes, as it affected multiple locations. I decided to... read more take measures into my own hands to help her and my family get the house "right" again.
It's rough when the holiday season hits and you need professional help, I hoped for the best. I used the Yelp feature to post my job listing to multiple companies, but Capri reached out to me first saying that they could come same day. We coordinated a time and the details with Mark and he drove up from San Jose to fix the situation.
We were very pleased with the same day service, they were able to get the pipes cleared and everything back to normal. Very happy with the service that they provided, but Mark and his coworker were just really cool people overall.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Febco residential backflow preventer 3/4 the best at preventing backflows?
The Febco residential backflow preventer 3/4 is the most common backflow prevention device in homes due to its durability, high-quality materials, and industry standards compliance. However, professional plumbers choose a device suitable for your plumbing system, pressure needs, and application, which may not always be the Febco device.
Are residential fire sprinkler backflow preventers essential?
Both state and local plumbing regulations and codes require homeowners to install backflow preventers on fire sprinkler systems to prevent stagnant water on the fire lines from contaminating treated, potable water in the city or municipal water supply. Water from the hydrant that flows into the fire sprinkler system is untreated. It should never mix with water from the potable main line.
What type of backflow preventer works for residential irrigation systems?
The pressure vacuum breaker (PVB), reduced pressure zone (RPZ), and double check assembly (DCA) are the most common types of backflow preventers installed in irrigation systems. They are all installed after the isolation valve in the water system. Backflow preventers are especially crucial when using fertilizer through a drip in a residential irrigation system.
How much does a residential backflow preventer cost?
The residential backflow prevention installation can cost anywhere between $105 and $1400. The average cost of installing a regular backflow is $325. Prices vary depending on the backflow preventer type, the number of devices needing installation, and the plumbers required to provide the service. Some contractors charge on an hourly basis while others have a standard time for the installation.
